The Port of Long Beach is less than two miles south of downtown Long Beach and 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. The Port of Long Beach was first opened in 1911 at the mouth of the Los Angeles River. Over the years the port was improved and enlarged. For many years, the port was supported by the oil exportation from the Long Beach Oil Field. During World War II, it became the home port for the United States Nany's Pacific Fleet. After the war, the Port of Long Beach because known as 'America's most modern port' and was expanded again. Lately, much effort have been put into making the port more environmentally-friendly with the Clean Air Action Plan and the Green Flag Incentive Program designed to help protect the surrounding coastline and reduce pollution while at the same time continuing to expand the port.

Long Beach is a great place to visit full of beautiful beaches and wondrous sights. The Aquarium of the Pacific is the world's largest ocean aquarium with more than 11,000 different species. There are also two theme parks from Disneyland Resort Destinations, Six Flags Magic Mountain and Universal Studios Hollywood to keep the whole family having fun.   • There are several options for transportation into downtown Long beach. These are located directly outside of the terminal.
